Actor Chandan Roy Sanyal, known for his recent projects ‘Lootere’ and ‘Patna Shuklla’, emphasized the importance of climate in character build-up. In a conversation with IANS, he shared insights on how climate impacts his performances and adds nuances to his characters.

Chandan revealed that for him, climate plays a crucial role on a subconscious level in shaping his characters. He highlighted that while the script provides the roadmap for his performance, the climate of a place helps in adding colors and fine-tuning the portrayal of a character.

In ‘Lootere’, set in Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, Chandan’s character benefits from the physical setting which adds to the drama and action of the show. He credited director Hansal Mehta for creating an intriguing world that captures the audience’s attention.

Pankaj Tripathi’s observation on how climate influences actor performances resonated with Chandan, who acknowledged the different approaches of European and Indian actors based on their respective climates. Chandan’s portrayal of a lawyer in ‘Patna Shuklla’ required him to understand the intricacies of India’s legal system, for which he consulted a friend who is a corporate lawyer.
