Industry body welcomes TRAI recommendations to support development of India-made products by startups

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently made new recommendations on ‘Regulatory Sandbox’, which could benefit startups and entrepreneurs in creating indigenous solutions and products, as well as boost investments in the country. With advancements in technologies like 5G/6G, AI, and Virtual Reality, the TRAI aims to support live testing of innovative use cases to enhance digital transformation and broadband proliferation.

President of the Broadband India Forum (BIF), TV Ramachandran, highlighted the significance of these recommendations, stating that they will stimulate the startup and MSME ecosystem by introducing new local players, encouraging competition, and attracting investments. The move is expected to foster the development of world-class products and solutions from India for global markets.

By allowing startups to test their products on live networks, the recommendations will help them assess the reliability of their solutions and make necessary adjustments to improve them for commercial use by network operators. This initiative is also seen as a way to introduce new technologies into the industry, promoting innovation and the creation of new Intellectual Property Rights.

The implementation of these recommendations is anticipated to reduce costs significantly and attract investments into the network services ecosystem. The BIF believes that this measure will not only benefit the startup community but also contribute to the growth of the overall industry and technological landscape in India.
