International Dog Day was launched in 2004 by Colin Page. Colin Page is a pet lifestyle expert and animal welfare activist. He adopted his first dog “Sheltie” on the date 26 August, and he chose this day to appreciate all dogs and promote their rights. Page, through this day, drew attention to the fact that dogs needed adoption and proper care, and how to be a responsible pet owner.
