Who is John Foley?
Meet John Foley, the man who took a spandex suit and a severe case of sweating from your neighborhood gym rat’s fever dream to the mainstream. As the co-founder and onetime chief executive of Peloton, Foley was once the face of home fitness, a proud leader of a stationary cycling revolution. But, just as we were all getting comfortable with our stationary bikes, Foley’s ride took a detour. When Peloton’s stock went from a rocket to a bumpy ride, Foley’s financial status became less “billionaire” and more “selling-the-mansion-for-a-loss” territory.
John Foley Career?
It all started for Foley in 2012 when he cofounded Peloton, this interactive bike company that did the one thing no one else could: made us wonder why we were not already working out in front of a screen in our homes. In the pandemic, Peloton went from being an obscure workout to being all the rage worldwide. By 2020, he was the king of the home gym. But, as with most royal reigns, it came crashing down.
When the world returned to gyms in 2021, it marked the beginning of the stock plummet for Peloton—a decline rivaled only by the likes of an elevator falling from the top floor. By early 2022, even Foley had stepped down as CEO, presumably to avoid someone finding a way to mistake him for a human-shaped stress ball. Things pinwheeled further for Peloton, and Foley bailed even faster than a fitness enthusiast during a 5k.
But Foley wasn’t out for long. In 2023, he emerged back on the scene with Ernesta, a startup firm that specializes in custom-made rugs. Yes, the rug business. It would appear that going from the high-tech world of exercise empires right back to the ultra-low-tech world of home décor is very much a thing now. Foley seems to be betting that bespoke rugs are the current in thing because if there’s one thing everyone has to have after shelling out thousands on a fancy bike, it’s a nice rug to look at while working out.
John Foley’s Net Worth 2024
Now, for the million-dollar question, or rather the not-so-million-dollar question: what is Foley’s net worth in 2024?
How much is it? About $967,094. Less than a million bucks, that’s right, folks. A far cry from his billionaire status when all was well at Peloton. But hey, if you’re going to lose billions, doing it in a Manhattan townhouse and a Hamptons house worth over $50 million seems like a decent way to go about it.
His money troubles have become the stuff of financial soap operas: He offloaded his Hamptons mansion for $51 million, resulting in a loss of $4 million, and sold a Manhattan townhouse for $35.5 million. Selling properties at a loss surely is not the retirement plan he envisioned, but it is surely one way to be in the news.
But despite the financial freefall, Foley’s not down and out. He’s raised over $25 million for Ernesta, hoping to turn those custom rugs into cash flow. Let’s just hope that his new venture doesn’t face the same turbulence as Peloton did. No one wants to see a rug company go down in stock!
John Foley Age
John Foley is 53. Born in the year of the rabbit, Foley has managed to pack a lot into the last half-century or so of his life, including co-founding a company that became a household word and then crashing spectacularly. If anything, his age gives him the wisdom to know that while rugs might not seem very glamorous compared to exercise bikes, they’re a whole lot less apt to get caught up in a scandal of recall lawsuits.
John Foley Family: Wife and Children
Foley is married to Jill Foley, who was as much a part of the Peloton story as John himself. Jill was the VP of Apparel at Peloton and her hiring her led to some raising of eyebrows given she had no experience in that field. When John left Peloton, some suggested Jill’s hiring might have been a factor in his exit. Ouch.
The Foleys have two kids, who, just like Mom and Dad, are probably working out how to live life with the bonus of balancing on more solid financial ground. After offloading their $55 million East Hampton home, the family has downsized to a cozy little place in Manhattan’s West Village. Because when life hands you a failed startup, you move to a cool neighborhood and hope for the best.
John Foley Height and Weight
Who is the Man behind Peloton? Standing tall at 6 feet 4 inches or 1.93 meters, at about 238 pounds or 108 kg, Foley stands tall-literally and figuratively. His height may have been one reason for his lofty ambition, while his weight may be from all those post-workout snacks he is having now since he does not work out in front of a camera anymore.
